For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.
Psalms 100:5
Today, we got a little overwhelmed with the speed how quickly things are moving along.
There were all kinds of firsts:
After I held Olevander Miriam was allowed to. She had asked for that for quite some time. Then Richard held him and the nurse let him feed one of Olevander's first bottles of breastmilk. He is off most of his medications, off the oxygen, off most of the monitors. The only things that are being monitored is his heart rhythm, his oxygenation saturation, and his breathing.
In the afternoon he was prepared to be sent over to the Stepdown Unit! When Miriam realized that we couldn't take her favorite nurse Stephanie along and that that meant the Goodbye to her she burst out in tears! Too many changes at once!
Even for Richard and I all of a sudden it felt like quite a lot of freedom that we were not used to in CICU: We have a room to ourselves, the nurses just check on him via monitor from the outside, none of them seem to have a lot of time to linger, here Eliane - who was snotty nosed the entire week and wasn't allowed to come near the CICU - is allowed to careen with her push toy through the room, we are left with a bottle of warm milk to feed the baby, and noone checks on how that is going. We are free to take him out of the crib whenever ... I get to spend the night with him right in his room.
Even though this is not the first newborn we have had it feels a little overwhelming and intimindating. We are just 4 days past his Norwood ... and there is even talk of discharging us soon!
This is how Richard put it very eloquently: It almost sounds like we/they are pushing him, but we/they are not... the protocol is for the patient to lead and the staff simply keeps them challenged without overdoing it. So it is Olevander that is breaking all the speed limits here, not the staff. He is their star patient at the moment.
Praise the Lord for his progress! Thank you all for your continued prayers and support!
Dem Herrn sei gedankt fuer all diesen Fortschritt! Dank sei euch allen fuer all eure Gebete und Anteilnahme!
