Eliane and the hospital - Eliane und das Krankenhaus

But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.  Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”
Luke 18:16-18

"I like Oyevada in the ho'pital!" exclaimed Eliane one of these days. It made me look up in surprise! What is she talking about?! How can she like him to be there when all he was there for was to be cut open and operated on, to be connected to tubes, medications, meters etc. Wait a minute, this is a two year old talking! She does not have the empathy to know what hospital means for him. All she is talking about is what hospital means for her. And she has great memories of the hospital! For her it was a fun time, an exciting time. Aunt Jojo was there around the clock, cousin Katherine played with her, and all these things to explore and discover! We stayed in a hotel, we ate out, we swam in the hotel pool. For her it was a vacation!
Here are all the fun things that Eliane - and probably Miriam, also - enjoyed at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston ... despite the circumstances of why we were there.  Let's look at the hospital through the eyes of a two year old.

Lukas 18, 16-18

"I like Oyevada in the ho'pital!"

Upon leaving the spacious cafeteria an aquarium in which the children discover a clown fish amongst others.

Entertaining boards like this one which show your hand prints for a while.

Upon leaving the Flower Elevator (to get to the Cardiac ICU) there is this huge diagram of a flower. The inscription to the right says:  There are over 270,000 known species of flowers and all have the same basic parts as shown in the diagram. Wow!

Unglaublich!

As you can see we are still in the part of the building of the the flower elevator. For easy navigation of the building everything is memorably and colorfully decorated.

One day they had a show of therapy dogs. By nature they all were sweet-tempered but this giant of a dog was especially gentle.

All of the special events are meant for the patients, of course, however, siblings and visitors are always welcome as well.

A fabulous library invited us to explore and read.

Finally, the garden with several adorable sculptures and fountains.

This fountain attracted the children especially.

It is hard to think hospital again after all the past weeks and months we had to get used to each other: Olevander to us, and we to him. But it is the time to think hospital again. On Wed, Oct. 5., Olevander is scheduled for a heart cath. While this is a routine procedure for cardiologists it will remind us that they have more in store for him, and that the reason why he has to undergo this procedure is to examine his maturity and to find the right time for his next surgery in the series of three, the so called Glenn. It might be pushed out further but quite certainly it will happen before the end of the year.
So please be with us in thought and prayer that this procedure will go smoothly and that we might get to go home for the night.

Tubeless! - Ohne Schlauch!

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them,
for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Deut. 31:6

Olevander got rid of his feeding tube! Hurray!
It happened rather accidentally which is easy to do with such a obstructive thing right in the face. Richard and I went boldly ahead and decided to just give it a try without for a while. We will continue to monitor his weight gain. Next week we will see our cardiologist and hear what he thinks about it.
No matter what his decision: It is such a joy to finally be able to enjoy the beautiful face of our little one!

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matt 11:28

Summer is taking a break here in the South - what a relief from the heat!
Before the cold spell hit we enjoyed a morning at the pool with friends and so enjoyed it!

Kommt alle her zu mir, die ihr euch abmüht und unter eurer Last leidet!
Ich werde euch Ruhe geben.
Matt 11, 28

Olevander slept through the whole event - until he woke up to nurse.
