Hurry up and wait - Erst grosse Eile, dann geduldiges Warten

Olevander - 1 Tag alt, 1 day old.

Unser Besuch bei ihm am 2. Tag. Our visit on day 2 of his life.
Olevander gerade mal 48h alt, just 48h old.

Erst grosse Eile, dann geduldiges Warten

Gott sei Dank!

Hurry up and wait

Olevander is in stable condition. Prostaglandin keeps the life sustaining openings in his heart open. He is being fed straight into his blood.
In preparation of our birth, our doctors thought we needed to be induced in the 39th week. According to them it was very important that the birth would happen in a controlled environment, to avoid the delivery at night, on the weekend, or on the 4th of July, and most importantly to be ready for his Norwood surgery on day 2 or 3. We weren't convinced about the urgency of cutting short a perfectly normal pregnancy but ended up following their advice. So we went through this tour de force even though neither I nor baby were ready (which became clear as baby was still full of vernix.)
In the same night of his birth Olevander was transfered to Children's at Egelston. And now after all this rush of getting to this point - and due to the fact that he is stable - we'll just have to wait. Again, it seems that the 4th of July weekend trips us up: Now the tentative plan is to wait until after the long weekend to have his Norwood surgery on Tue, 5 July.  Apparently, they are slammed with several babies with a similar condition. And since Olevander is so stable the cardiologists think he can hang in until next week.
There are pros and cons to this approach but for us who were ready to go on to the next step this unexpected postponement was disappointing.
Until then, there shouldn't be any surprises. Olevander is in good hands at the Cardiac ICU of Children's as Egleston, he is being cared for and watched over a nurse that only has2 tiny patients and a team of cardiologists.

And after all the most important thing is: He is doing well - Thank you, Lord!
