Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Johannes! - Happy birthday, Johannes!

I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
Psalm 9:2

Our youngest, Johannes, has turned 7!
This year being fully aware of it, he started counting down the days and was happy when all the waiting was finally over and the day was here. It ended up being a fun filled day with church in the morning and Family Fun Night (the Fall Festival of our church) in the later part of the day. We decided to celebrate where the crowd was gathering anyway. Every year, the long vinyl slide is a big hit among young and old. And of course, our birthday boy loved it!
Johannes is such a positive child following his siblings in what they do. He seldom cries or is unhappy. He has a gift for occupying himself. He is inquisitive and curious. Many of his statements start with "What if...?" and he describes an entire scenario of unusual circumstances wanting to know the potential results.
I cannot wait what God has in store for our little boy.
May the Lord continue to bless him - on his birthday and in this new year of his life!

The long slide at the Fall Festival of our church

Happy birthday! - Johannes zum Geburtstag!

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matt 6:33

Our Johannes turned 6. He couldn't wait!

In the last 4 weeks, he has lost 4 teeth. Every single one was a badge of honor to him.

Being the youngest of a family that homeschools, he learns so much just by being around. He has the technical curiosity of his father. He loves to draw his stories. He is loving and sometimes a bit rough.

God, we thank you for our Johannes!

Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!
Psalm 31:24

Psalm 31, 24

Today, I would like to celebrate our youngest, Johannes, who turned 4 years old. No longer a toddler, he left all things baby behind a long time ago. He always looks up to his siblings and learns a lot by watching and copying.
We thank God for Johannes! I can't wait to see what He has in store for him. For the time being, I enjoy him right where he is: My little big guy who I get to cuddle and hold close whenever he lets me.

Happy Birthday, Johannes! - Hoch sollst du leben!

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Jer. 29:11-13

Jer. 29, 11-13

He is still too young to understand what birthday is all about.
Two years ago, we welcomed our youngest, Johannes, to our family. What a happy day! We are so glad God gave us this merry little boy with a big smile! These days, his favorite answer to anything is a toddler-like No!, but it is not a grumpy reply, it is a cheerful one. He is beginning to talk more and more, repeating a lot of things that we say. Such a cute age!
We are very thankful for our littlest! Did I say little? Sorry, that is not quite the case. He is a rather BIG litte boy and could easily go for 3. The days of him in my carrier are numbered. Anyway, for those that don't get to see him in person often: He is growing up fast, too fast. Didn't I just hold him as a brand new little bundle the other day? And now he is two years old. Happy Birthday, Joahnnes!

Was fuer ein gluecklicher Tag! Was fuer ein drolliges Alter!

One year has passed. What is a year on our life? It is but another year, one of a whole lot of others.
In the case of our little Johannes a year is his life.
Last fall, he became part of our family. What a change: The little bundle that we carried home has turned into a toddler who wants to have his say, one that explores his world. It is one year that he has been with us. What a gift from God!

Was fuer ein Geschenk Gottes!

For now he is still cruising. We have seen a few steps here and there - he just has to trust his abilities.

Johannes on the loose! - Johannes ist unterwegs!

Trust in Him at all times, you people;
Pour out your hearts before Him.
God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:8

The other day Johannes began to crawl! Now, nothing will be safe from him. Whatever lies on the floor: cars, small parts, things that fell from the dining table ... his little hands will surely find it. Now we all have to take on the new challenge of picking up and cleaning up around the house. Having a mobile baby leaves you no choice.

What a friendly little fellow he is! Most of the time, he is of good cheer and will welcome you with a heartwarming smile which can lighten up the gloomiest of days. His innocent babbling, his surprised squeals and the banging of his toys is just a small part of the noise spectrum of our lively household - but it is like music in my ears.

Our youngest is 8 months old! What a gift of God!

Auf Gott ruht mein Heil und meine Ehre;
der Fels meiner Stärke,

meine Zuflucht ist in Gott.
Psalm 62, 8

Was fuer ein Geschenk Gottes!

Spring! - Fruehling!

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,  to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,  to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.  For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 1:5-8

Spring!
It's the time of the year when we spend a lot of time out doors, hike, bike, play, and plant a garden. It is the time when it gets quiet here on the blog because life happens and, at the end of the day, sleep needs to happen.
We had family come to town: Nana spent time with us. She hadn't been able to visit in years much to her dismay. She is a very pleasant visitor that comes with no agenda of her own, that just goes with the flow, and helps where ever she can. So whenever I felt a little stretched thin she would just jump in and lend a helpful hand with whatever I needed her most.
Aunt Wendy and Aunt Joy came and helped out as well. They always love hanging out with the kids.
Jason, on the other hand, went on a big trip on business. It was a kind of time travel when he went across the time line down under. It is quite a thrill of talking to someone halfway around the world!
Then Easter week came: We celebrated the resurrection of of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Miriam had to study for her Memory Master. That means to learn the entire material of the school year by heart - a tremendous challenge! The big rains started. We haven't had this much rain before. For her it meant more studying time - less temptation to go out and do other things.
Jason returned, the family was reunited again. Thank God for his safe travels!
The pictures are a chance for everyone further out to see how much the children have grown, especially our Johannes who is 6 months old now! He very much is the friendly fellow that you see here: Always happy to share a smile with you. What a joy he is! We thank God daily for him and all the Schatzkinder that we have ... and our family!

Johannes enjoys Nana's color statement, don't you, too?
Johannes gefaellt Nanas Farbpracht.

Miriam musste fuer Memory Master bueffeln.

Thanksgiving

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn,  and a time to dance.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, 4

Prediger 3, 1-2, 4
Thanksgiving this year was bittersweet. It was the first without Richard's sister Elise. In fact, last year's Thanksgiving is the last memory that we have of her, the last family get-together before her fatal car accident.
On the positive side, last year we had no idea that little Johannes would soon join our family. And here he is making his debut, being loved and adored by everyone. So it is with mixed feelings that we say Good Bye and Hello at the same time.
God is good, he gives and takes away. We give Him thanks in everything.

Elise always was very talented in arts and crafts. Last year, she got us to make personal place mats, simple but effective. She got everyone involved - from the oldest to the youngest in the family.

Here is some of our work.

So when we got the place mats out for this year's Thanksgiving meal and hers was not going to be used, it was a sad reminder that she is no longer with us.

Last year, Elise came up with these hats for her church's nativity. Her ideas were simply brilliant!

Wendy sorely missed her sister when she got the kids to decorate a pumpkin with a store bought turkey set.

Elise hatte Schafe immer besonders gern.

How can you not smile when you see a sweet baby like this?
We have much to be thankful for!

Johannes and his Grandmother - Johannes und seine Grossmutter

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6

Johannes 14, 6

Our little Johannes is one month old. As I imagined, he is changing right in front of our eyes: Growing, filling out, getting to know us, finding his rhythm, getting comfortable in his new life, even trying his first shy smile.
Thanksgiving is upon us and the first Sunday of Advent will follow right thereafter. When you have kids time just flies. Sometimes our days are so busy now that I need to remind myself to take a moment to look back and reminisce. God has been with us on every step of the way and has taken care of our family. All the weeks leading up to the birth, the time of patient waiting, the night of intense labor, the birth, and bringing our newborn home are slowly turning from just-the-other-day into family history.
When I think about all of that I am particularly pleased about baby's birth date. Johannes' birth happened to be on the birth day of my late mother. Ever since she died, that day each October just seemed to be a bitter-sweet reminder of her being gone, of the gap that she has left in our family. Though she is no longer with us, and I have now lived many years without her being here, I often think of her. In a particular situation I am reminded of things she would say (I may even say similar things in such situations!). I talk to my kids often about when I was a child and memories of my family.
And now my youngest Johannes was born in the early morning hours of Oct 24 - we have come full circle. Happily, that day now is revived with the life of a precious newborn. Though he will not get to meet his grandmother in life, he is connected with her through the birthday they share.
Looking beyond the Here and Now, with the hope that we have in Christ, fortunately, this won't be the end of the story, though. I know that one day, we will be able to meet and I am sure that happy day she and I and he, too, will have much to share.
