New heart cath needed - Herzkatheter erneut notwendig

Olevander will have to have yet another heart catheterization. His Atrium Septum is narrowing once more and constricting blood flow toward his lungs. This kind of regenerative power is what every baby with a Atrial Septum Defect (a so called hole in the heart) can only wish for. However, at that particular area it doesn't help HLHS patients at all. For them that wall is cut out early on and needs to stay nice and open to ensure blood circulation to the lungs.

We'll be going into the hospital - hopefully outpatient - within the next 2 weeks. 

The last such procedure was done barely 2 1/2 months ago. And here we are again in a similar situation. Again, they will open it up by performing a Balloon Septostomy but this time they will insert a stent to keep it open. 

Update: Olevander will be treated 16 Aug 12 first thing in the morning. Because of the stent they will keep him overnight for observation.

While we are not thrilled about this development we like this approach still better than taking care of this problem by doing his 3rd surgery, the Fontan, early. 

Meanwhile, Olevander is happy as can be and has not shown any symptoms, as turning blue for instance, and we certainly don't want to wait that long.

On Sunday, our church prayed for him, for healing, for the doctors, and a good outcome. 

We will once more trust the Lord and pray that He will carry him through this.

Olevander wird sich wieder einem Herzkatheter unterziehen muessen. Seine Vorhofscheidewand hat sich erneut verengt und behindert den Blutfluss zu seinen Lungen. Diese regenerative Kraft koennte sich jedes Baby mit einem Atrial Septum Defekt (einem sogenannnten Loch im Herzen) nur wuenschen. Jedoch hilft sie HLHS-Patienten an dieser Stelle ueberhaupt nicht. Bei ihnen wird die Vorhofscheidewand als erstes herausgetrennt und muss offen bleiben, um den Blutkreislauf zu den Lungen zu ermoeglichen.

Innerhalb der naechsten 2 Wochen werden wir - hoffentlich ambulant - ins Krankenhaus gehen.

Der letzte solche Eingriff geschah erst vor 2 1/2 Monaten. Und jetzt sind wir schon wieder in der gleichen Situation. Auch diesmal wird die Vorhofscheidewand mittels einer Ballon Septostomie erweitert werden, diesmal wird jedoch ein Stent eingesetzt, der sie offen halten soll.

Nachtrag: Olevander wird am 16. Aug 12 gleich frueh am Morgen behandelt. Wegen des Stents wird er wohl uebernacht zur Beobachtung bleiben muessen.

Obwohl wir nicht begeistert ueber diese Entwicklung sind, ist uns diese Vorgehensweise doch lieber, als das Problem waehrend einer Operation zu beheben und seine 3. OP, die Fontan, deshalb vorzuziehen.

Olevander, unterdessen, geht es praechtig und er hat keinerlei Symptome, wie beispielsweise blau anzulaufen. Darauf wollen wir natuerlich auch nicht warten.

Am Sonntag betete unsere Gemeinde fuer ihn, fuer Heilung, fuer die Aerzte und fuer einen guten Verlauf des Eingriffs. Wir werden auch diesmal wieder dem Herrn vertrauen und beten, dass er ihn beschuetzen moege.
