A heart-concious fetal ultrasound - Ein Ultraschall mit Augenmerk auf's Herz

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 23:1

Why it’s important to ask about your baby’s heart during an ultrasound

Heading to your baby's 18-20 week old ultrasound soon? Remember to ask these important questions:

Do you see four chambers in the baby's heart?
Are there two upper chambers (left and right atria), each with a valve controlling blood flow out of them?
Are there two lower chambers (left and right ventricles), each with a valve controlling blood flow out of them?
Do the vessels leaving the heart (aorta and pulmonary artery) cross each other as they exit?
Is the wall between the two lower chambers intact, without any holes?
Does everything in the heart look normal?

I found these questions at the Boston Children's website at childrenshospitalblog.org.
Please go ahead and check out their entire post including a touching video.

Even before Olevander's heart defect affected our lives I have always had a pet peeve about the obligatory question 'Do you know what you are having?', or the notion 'We are headed to the ultrasound to find out what we are having.'
Is the big ultrasound just about finding out about the sex of your baby?
Is the whole test being reduced to finding out whether you'll have a boy or a girl?
Is everything else they check at that time just secondary - hardly worth mentioning?
Is having a baby with a healthy heart, a complete set of organs, a brain, an intact lip and cleft (and all the items of the long list that can go wrong) just being taken for granted?

It is no coincidence that I bring up this topic here. Richard and I went to have our ultrasound today. We got the reassuring news that baby is healthy all the way around. Praise the Lord!
We know that everything else is going to fall into place, including whether girl or boy. God will take care of us and the needs of our growing family.
By the way, I am doing fantastic! Otherwise I wouldn't have braved a month long trip to Germany.
In short, we are all doing well, we are happy and we are looking forward to October when we get to meet this little one.

Steht Babys 2. Ultraschall zwischen der 18.-20. SSW bald an? Wird die Feindiagnostik vorgenommen? Dafuer sind diese wichtigen Fragen entscheidend:
Koennen Sie 4 Herzkammern sehen?
